Drape Cut

The drape cut is a tailoring style, refined in 1930s London, in which a small amount of extra cloth is introduced across the chest and upper back so that the fabric falls in soft vertical folds rather than lying flat against the body. The result is an impression of a fuller chest and greater ease of movement without sacrificing a clean waist.

Associated with the so-called English Drape or "London Cut", the technique flatters a wide range of physiques by adding apparent volume above the waist. It demands considerable skill to cut, as the drape must read as deliberate softness rather than as an ill-fitting jacket.
