Pantalon à Pinces

A pleated trouser incorporates one or more folds of fabric at the waistband, pointing toward the fly. Pleats provide room across the seat and thigh, allowing ease of movement and — when correctly fitted — a cleaner, more graceful line than a flat front at the same waist measurement.

Single-forward pleats and double-forward pleats are the classical configurations. The pleat is not a concession to comfort — it is a sartorial statement in its own right.
